Our seals could be made of EPDM, SILICONE, FKM, and PTFE. While we only supply FKM seals for our closed loop extractors.
What's FKM gasket?
Fluoro-Elastomer was originally develope by Du Pont. And VITON™ is their official trademark name. While now, their are multiple companies that produce Viton, they use different names but it is still common to refer to FKM and FPM as Viton, being the original name.
FKM is the American standard ASTM short form name for Fluro-Elastomer. It is the designation for around 80% of Fluoro-Elastomers define by ASTM D1418. FPM is Fluoro-Elastomer's DIN/ISO international abbreviation (1629 standard).
And we supply FKM gaskets for the closed loop extractor.
Features
Viton® gaskets are made of high-performance fluoroelastomers that provide outstanding resistance to heat. These rubber gaskets generally support temperatures from −25 °C to 200 °C. Special types of FKM are even flexible at −40 °C. Gaskets made of Viton® also provide excellent resistance to: oils. Generic FKM resists aliphalactic aromatic and halogenated hydrocarbons, concentrated acids, alkalis, animal and vegetable oils.
Our closed loop extractors are use to extract BHO from dry plants in low temperature. FKM gaskets have a good performance in low temperature resistance and corrosion resistance.
The reason Why we choose FKM gasket for closed loop extractor
FKM&EPDM
Comparing with EPDM, FKM could also works in sub-zero temperatures. EPDM does not fare so well fuels, oils and non-polar solvents. While FKM is ideal for applications involving the handling and transportation of chemicals and fuels, as well as high temperature and explosive environments like in the oil and gas, automotive and aerospace industries. So FKM is a better choice.
FKM&SILICONE
Compares with FKM, SILICONE has a poor abrasion resistance. And SILICONE is not compatible with hydrocarbon fuels, alkalis and acids, steam above 121℃, trichloroethylene, aromatic hydrocarbons. As butane, propane, and ethanol solvents are hydrocarbon fuels, silicone is not a good choice.
FKM&PTFE
Fluoroelastomer (FKM) rubber is a thermoset elastomer while Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a thermoplastic. Both are fluorinated materials comprising of carbon atoms surrounded by fluorine atoms. And PTFE has higher leak rate than other elastomers. So we don't supply PTFE gaskets for closed loop extractors.
