Common Faults and Maintenance of Self-priming Pump

Common failures of self-priming pumps

The self-priming pump will encounter some more common problems in the daily use. For example, the self-priming pump's non-pumping problem will be caused by many different reasons, so how do we deal with these problems is the key. The reasons for the problem that the self-priming pump does not pump water include the following aspects:

1. When using the self-priming pump for the first time

The so-called self-priming pump means that it does not need to add water when the self-priming pump is started, and its own impeller can do it, and the greater the sealing gap of the impeller is, the lower the self-priming height is. This is not to say that the self-priming pump does not need to add water. After the first installation of the self-priming pump, it is still necessary to fill the water to use the impeller of the self-priming pump to suck up the water.

2. When the self-priming pump has a long filling time

The reasons for this situation may be: less water diversion, loose screws in the inlet and outlet cover of the self-priming pump, insufficient sealing of the inlet pipe, and small suction stroke of the self-priming pump. (In this case, consider replacing a self-priming pump with a large suction stroke).

The operation of the self-priming pump is unstable, and it often stops working temporarily. In this case, it is recommended to check whether the physical structure or accessories of the self-priming pump are damaged, and whether there are foreign objects inside the self-priming pump, such as weeds.

3. The water output of the self-priming pump is small

When there is water from the self-priming pump but the water output is not very large, first check whether the gap between the lower impeller and the casing ring is too large, you can consider changing the casing or the impeller ring. Secondly, there is also one of the possible reasons for the air stored in the pump. Another possibility is that the impeller's water flow pipe is blocked by foreign objects, and the packing is seriously worn.

Before starting the self-priming pump, check whether there is liquid in the pump body. If there is no liquid, it is easy to cause abnormal phenomena such as empty pumping and burning the mechanical shaft seal.

When dealing with the problem that the self-priming pump does not produce water, we must investigate the cause of the pump problem one by one. This can quickly find the cause of the problem and make the self-priming pump operate normally.

4 ways to solve the failure of self-priming pump motor

1. The pump still doesn't work after power on.

This may be caused by a power plug or a line that cannot be driven, or a short circuit.

2. It is not good to start or there is noise when starting.

A small bamboo piece can be used to turn the fan blade during maintenance. If the motor can run normally, it means that the starting winding is damaged. The capacitor of the same capacity should be replaced or the starting winding should be repaired. If the motor is stuck, it is caused by the failure of the motor and the pump head.

3. The motor can run, but the speed is slow, the case is overheated, and it smells burnt.

It may be caused by short circuit of the motor, and the motor should be disassembled to repair the seriousness of the damage.

4. Large noise and vibration during operation.

In most cases, the bearing is damaged or the bearing and the casing are not properly matched. The motor needs to be disassembled and inspected. If the bearing is damaged, it should be replaced. "Run inner circle" can be used to treat the worn parts of the motor shaft with chisel. If the wear is serious, it should be repaired by surfacing first and then turning.

Several maintenance methods of self-priming pump

Check the self-priming pump, pipelines and joints for looseness. Turn the self-priming pump by hand to see if the self-priming pump is flexible.

Add bearing lubricating engine oil to the bearing body, observe the oil level should be at the center line of the oil standard, and the lubricant should be replaced or supplemented in time.

Unscrew the water plug of the pump body of the self-priming pump and pour water (or slurry).

Close the gate valve, outlet pressure gauge and inlet vacuum gauge of the outlet pipe.

Jog the motor to see if the motor turns correctly.

Start the motor, when the self-priming pump is running normally, turn on the outlet pressure gauge and the inlet vacuum pump, and open the gate valve gradually according to the proper pressure, and at the same time check the load of the motor.

Try to control the flow and head of the self-priming pump within the range indicated on the label to ensure that the self-priming pump operates at the highest efficiency point to obtain the maximum energy saving effect.

This article focuses on the common failures and maintenance of sanitary self-priming pumps. Understanding these measures can help you solve some problems that occur in self-priming pumps, so as to better extend their service life.
